Vocational Service Literacy Awards 2016-2017

To earn this award clubs must complete five vocational service literacy projects.

The club can apply by submitting a written list of the projects completed. Clubs are encouraged to add short descriptions of any projects on the list for which a description would help the rest of the district understand what was done. FOLLOWING IS A SUGGESTIVE LIST OF PROJECTS WHICH WOULD QUALIFY FOR THIS AWARD. IF YOUR CLUB CONDUCTS OTHER PROJECTS WITH A VOCATIONAL SERVICE ASPECT, LIST THOSE ALSO.,

A.    In the club

1.    Display 4-Way Test at weekly meetings

2.    Involve members in repeating the 4-Way Test at weekly meeting

3.    Display the OBJECT OF ROTARY at weekly meetings

4.    Involve members in paying attention to or being reminded of the OBJECT OF ROTARY

5.    Display one or both mottos at weekly meeting

6.    Involve members paying attention to or being reminded of one or both mottos

7.    Devote a portion of a club meeting to the Rotary Code of Conduct or make members aware of it in other ways

8.    Conduct classification talks by members and/or guest speakers

9.    Present weekly speakers and/or guests with a gift that includes the Four-Way Test

10.    Other

B.    In the local  community

1.    Recognize vocational service role models in the community – Educator, small business person, corporate leader, not-for-profit leader, government leader

2.    Publicize 4-Way Test, Object of Rotary, Rotary mottos at recognition events

3.    Create public awareness of 4-Way Test in public venues ( e.g. billboards, public park sign or monument, newspaper advertisement, etc.)

4.    Create public awareness of Object of Rotary and/or mottos in public venues

5.    Successfully encourage club members to display Four Way Test a place of work

6.    Successfully encourage club members to display Object of Rotary at place of work

7.    Support a club member’s project which was initiated and/or sustained by that members vocational knowledge ( acquaintance as an opportunity for service)

8.    Undertake or support a community service project which depends upon the leadership and/or technical skills of club members ( E.g. members with construction skills work on a club sponsored Habitat for Humanity project).

9.    Provide financial support and/or mentoring for an adult or youth vocational education project  or job skills training project.

10.    Publicize Rotary’s vocational service values in fund-raising activities

C.    In the international community

1.    Support an international vocational service project

2.    Support a vocationally oriented Group Study Exchange project or something of a similar nature

D.    Among local youth

1.    Expose youth to the Four-Way Test in their schools

2.    Expose youth to the Object of Rotary and/or the mottos in their schools

3.    Recognize youth leaders and use the recognition ceremony to publicize Rotary’s vocational service values.

4.    Recognize school teachers and use the recognition to publicize Rotary’s vocational service values.

5.    Display the Four-Way Test in a local school

6.    Sponsor a student to attend a leadership event and use the occasion to reinforce the student’s awareness of Rotary’s vocational service philosophy and values

7.    Sponsor a career shadowing activity

8.    Sponsor a career mentoring activity

9.    Sponsor an Interact or Rotaract club

10.    Award scholarships and use the award presentation to publicize Rotary’s vocational service values.
