About District 6930

Rotary District 6930 stretches along the Central East Coast of Florida, from Titusville to Boca Raton.  There are 41 clubs across the district with more than 1400 active Rotarians.  We also have a vibrant ecosystem of Rotaract and Interact Clubs.  As a matter of fact, District 6930 is the birthplace of Interact!  The Melbourne High Interact Club was authorized on November 5, 1962 – sponsored by the Rotary Club of Melbourne – and is still going strong today!

Our Rotarians are active in every facet of their communities, leading the way as problem solvers and people of action, working to better conditions for all residents and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.  Millions of dollars are invested annually in areas of environment, health and safety, education, and more – not to mention the millions of hours that Rotarians volunteer each year in their community.

Besides Rotary, the one thing that connects our communities in District 6930 is the Indian River Lagoon.  Before the railroad, the lagoon was an important means of transportation.  It’s economic impact on our region is enormous, and the health and vitality of the lagoon and its watershed contributes significantly to our quality of life.

The official “logo” of District 6930 is a vibrant image of the Indian River Lagoon with healthy mangroves, a flock of birds, and the arc of a rocket launch….as well as the depiction of the six counties that make up our district (Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach).  Look closely, there are seven birds in flight….one for each area of focus in Rotary.  And notice the roots on the mangroves….again, the symbolic number seven.

There is a Rotary Club in every community, oftentimes multiple options to choose from.  We invite you to explore the clubs in your area and find the one that suits your schedule and best meets your needs.

And snowbirds, we welcome you with open arms to your club away from home!  Wherever you choose to winter in our district, your presence and participation will be a valuable addition!

District 6930 is one of eight districts in Florida, and we work closely to support one another.  We’re no strangers to devastating weather, and we meet to plan response and support regularly each year during hurricane season.  Those close ties also extend to leadership development – we partner on PETS (President Elect Training) and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership).  No competition, just collaboration – we’re all focused on the same goal – sharing Rotary’s values and doing good in the world.

Why does the mangrove play a central role in our logo?  The mangrove is multi-faceted in its benefits and vital to the well-being of our communities and our planet….much like Rotarians.

  • They are climate heroes.  Mangroves are highly effective “blue carbon” ecosystems, absorbing and storing up to ten times more carbon than terrestrial forests.

  • They are marine nurseries.  Their intricate root systems offer shelter and protection for a vast array of marine life, serving as nurseries for juvenile fish and crustaceans.  Their roots provide excellent structure for encrusting algae and invertebrates such as sponges and barnacles to grow.

  • They defend the coastline.  The dense forest of mangroves act as a natural breakwater, absorbing wave energy and protecting shorelines from severe storm surges and erosion.

  • They filter water.  Mangroves filter pollutants from coastal waters, helping to remove excess nitrogen and prevent harmful algal blooms.

  • They are builders.  Mangrove roots collect sediments that create more land and build up islands.
